Relationships

As girls, we always want a relationship especially during wedding and engagement season. We sometimes think I can't wait to have a boyfriend for all the things he can do for me. But what about, what we can do and should do for him. When thinking about a relationship or pursing a relationship we not only need to think and pray for his readiness. But also are we ready to be that for someone else? What should we doing to prepare and what should our part in a relationship be? A relationship is about a partnership between two people and both people must be prepared and willing. As women we want the guys to be there to listen to us, buy us gifts, bring us flowers, take us out,and more. But what should be doing for him? We should be praying for him, showing him support, thanking for all the nice things, encouraging him, following his leadership, and more.  The most important part of a relationship is Christ, and He should be the center of a relationship. I would also encourage anyone thinking about a relationship to really consider what it means. Because so many people today go into a relationship lightly not thinking about a what a true relationship means, which is honestly looking and considering that person to be an option for their future spouse and parent to their kids. Also, I want to say that I would strongly discourage anyone to begin or be in a relationship with someone who is not a christian when you are. There are so many passages about why that's not a good idea and a warning about it. Not just dating relationships but any relationship should be filled and show love. So instead of trying to give my definition of love or words to describe it I will leave you with a passage about it.

1 Cor 13:4-7
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;[b] it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

There are so many other passages I could reference about relationships and marriage, but I just want to say as women we should strive in all areas of our lives to be Proverbs 31 women.

Proverbs 31:10-31
An excellent wife who can find?    She is far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her,    and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm,    all the days of her life. She seeks wool and flax,    and works with willing hands. She is like the ships of the merchant;    she brings her food from afar. She rises while it is yet night    and provides food for her household    and portions for her maidens. She considers a field and buys it;    with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard. She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong. She perceives that her merchandise is profitable. Her lamp does not go out at night. She puts her hands to the distaff,    and her hands hold the spindle. She opens her hand to the poor    and reaches out her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household are clothed in scarlet. She makes bed coverings for herself;her clothing is fine linen and purple. Her husband is known in the gates when he sits among the elders of the land. She makes linen garments and sells them;  she delivers sashes to the merchant. Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed;her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women have done excellently,  but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.

I know that it can be hard to wait for that right guy to appear, and sometimes all you want is to be in a relationship. But please be patient and realize that there is a reason for this time in your life when you are single. God will use this time to grow you and most likely many others around you. As one of my dear friends says, " You are dancing with God and when the time comes He will let the right guy cut in."
