College and Organization Tips
For College
- do the work, I promise if you do work and attend class you will have good grades
- go to your professor's office hours
- find a place you can do your homework and study where you will not be distracted whether that's that home or in a coffee shop
- learn how you study whether you need friends or by yourself, with music or without, flashcards
- sometimes you just have to make yourself study or go to class because you need to even if you don't want to.
- use a planner!!!!!
- write down ALL assignments as soon as you get them!
- as soon as you get your syllabus put every date in your planner from the get go
- find someone to hold you accountable to your grades, going to class, and doing your work.
- find a friend who will push you and make sure you do your work because sometimes we all need that little push
- use the Pomodoro Technique.
- It is a time management technique that has you working for a set amount of time, and then taking a break for a set amount of time.
- College is going to be hard so deal with it but don't let it consume you.
- take breaks and enjoy friends because sometimes that's what you need
- be a friend
- get out of your comfort zone
- don't become a hermit and live in your room and just do homework there must be a balance between school and fun/friends.
- create a routine and stick to it
- get up early even if you don't have a class that way you can get stuff done
- find something to be passionate about
- even if you take notes on your computer go back and copy them by hand
- quizlet is an amazing invention.
- keep all notes and things in one place and keep that place organized!!!
- ask for help when you need it whether it is a project, a math problem, or just a life problem
- tutoring is not for the weak and should not be ashamed and neither are learning disabilities if you need help ask for it but if you don't ask don't expect help
- you need to get out on your own even for a little bit and learn to be independent
- you need to learn how to think for yourself and not just want your parents or professors say
- learn to speak up in class it will really help and also do it in your own life
- if you need anxiety, ADD, ADHD, or depression meds then ask for them and take them!!
- DRINK COFFEE!!!
- on Sunday look at your week ahead and make a game plan of all you need to do and what your week will look like.
- lay out your clothes the night before
- keep an extra pair of headphones and phone chargers in your backpack at all times! (they are lifesavers)
- find upperclassmen friends who have gone through this and can offer you advice and which professors to take
- USE RATE MY PROFFESSROR!!
- sell your books back and never go to campus bookstore unless you absolutely have to
- don't buy textbooks till after you go to your first class
Organization
- color code your planner with each class a color OR use a system that each group of time has a set color
- so that its pink on the day its due and green 1-2 days before
- always have your planner or calendar with you in some format
- write down on to do list in one spot
- spend one time each week to plan and update your calendar
- plan our meals a week at a time
- sticky notes are amazing and really helpful for every little list or reminder you need
